Where Americans can travel at the moment?

 

The European Union has barred U.S. travelers, and Canada, Mexicohave also closed their land borders.

For U.S. travelers this summer, there are some options: Caribbean countries, Mexican states, the Balkans, and Africa. The U.S. State Department advises U.S. citizens to avoid all international travel due to the global impact of COVID-19.Put in mind: “If you choose to travel internationally, your travel plans may be severely disrupted, also you may be forced to remain outside of the U.S. for an indefinite time frame.”

 

While the following countries are open to U.S. travelers, before booking it’s better for you to ask this questions:

Are the activities and services that I’m interested in available?

Do the hotels have any good cleaning protocols?

Am I goin to be tested for COVID-19 at the airport or do I have to quarantine when I arrive?

How did this country handle COVID-19 spikes in the past?

Do I have a travel insurance that will cover me if I want to cancel or if I got sick while on vacation?

 

Countries that are slated to open to Americans later this summer:

Belize : 15 Aug

Cayman Islands: 1 September

Rwanda : 1 Aug

St. Maarten : 1 Aug

 

July 23, Americans are allowed to travel to these countries:

 

Antigua and Barbuda

Antigua has been welcomingAmerican travelers since the beginning of June, but to be allowed into the country, all visitors will be required to provide a negative COVID-19 test.

 

United Arab Emirates

since July 7, Dubai started welcoming back foreign travelers. Visitors must take a COVID-19 test within 96 hours of their flight and show their airline a negative result, or they will be tested on arrival and required to isolate while awaiting the results.

 

United Kingdom

Visitors from the United States must quarantine for 14 days. Those who fail to do so can be fined up to £1,000 (or approximately US$1,270.

 

Aruba

Aruba opened to U.S. travelers on July 10, for California, Florida, Texas, and Wisconsin—cannot travel to Aruba without proof of a negative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test.

 

Bermuda

As of July 1, Bermuda opened to international travelers. Visitors will need to be tested at least twice for COVID-19.

 

Croatia

Croatia ignored the recommendation of Europe. Visitors don’t have to quarantine, but they need to present confirmation of accomodation.

 

French Polynesia

Comprising 118 islands, including Tahiti and Bora. As of July 15, French Polynesia - very popular destination in the South Pacific- has reopened to travelers from all countries. They just must have proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken no later than 72 hours before their flight, also register with the country's Electronic Travel Information System, and take another test 4 days after their arrival

 

Ireland

Ireland visitors are required to self-isolate for 14 days. There are no restrictions on flights from the U.S to Ireland, the Irish government advises Travelers that they should be prepared for travel restrictions to be put into effect with little or maybe no advance notice."

Jamaica

Jamaica welcomed international travelers since June 15. At the airport, arriving visitors will be subject to temperature screenings and health checks.

 

Maldives

Visitors to the Maldivesdon’t have to quarantine, but must be registered to stay at a resort.

As of July 15, maldiveshas been open to international tourism. There is no testing or quarantine requirements, but visitors are only allowed on "resort" islands.

 

Mexico

Land borders between the U.S.  and Mexicoare closed until July 21, but American travelers are allowed to go by plane.

 

St. Bart’s

Visitors have been welcome in St. Bart’s since June 22. Travelers needs a negative COVID-19 test, obtained at least 72 hours before arrival.

 

St. Lucia

As of early July, St. Lucia opened to American travelers. Visitors are required to have a negative COVID-19 test and should expect to undergo temperature checks.

 

Serbia

Serbia dropped all of  COVID-19 entry restrictions earlier this year.

 

Tanzania

Tanzania lifted all entry requirements on June 1, travelers are required to fill out a Health Surveillance Form to submit to Port Authority officials. Visitors may expect “intensive” screening, according to the government.

 

Turkey

Turkey welcomed international travelers since June 12. Arriving visitors will be subject to thermal screening upon arrival.

 

Turks and Caicos

Since July 22, Turks and Caicos wecomed international visitors. All international travelers must have pre-authorization through the Turks and Caicos "TCI Assured Portal." Plus a negative COVID-19 test, taken within five days of arrival in Turks and Caicos, and  medical insurance that covers the cost of quarantine or local care; a completed online health screening.
